Concrete is now the go to option for long rural or semi-rural driveways.
KMR concrete is doing more and more rural driveways, particularly on slopes where bitumen is notoriously unsuccessful. We meet many clients who have struggled for years to maintain a driveway on a big block. For most of them repair or entire reconstruction of their driveway is an annual event. With each new rain event a new driveway will follow.
For some it is a couple of thousands of dollars in road base and machinery hire each year. For others it’s a far more expensive lesson. We have removed a lot of bitumen driveways over the years but it seems to be more common nowadays.
Bitumen itself has no real structural value. It relies entirely on the ground beneath it to support it. This is why roadworks require so much fill, compaction and sub grading. The cost is astronomical and just not feasible for the vast majority of rural driveways.
There is no escaping the fact that a lot of concrete will cost more than a little bit of concrete. The other sum to consider is what will be the eventual cost of not doing it right first time.
The upside is that long narrow driveways on a wide open spaces are a concreters dream and we price accordingly. Please call Russ on 0404411362.
